We had lots of fun making gingerbread houses, decorating sugar cookies, decorating the tree (finally!), looking at Christmas lights, and spending time catching up.
We even had an exciting evening in which we thought we would be meeting our new little guy before Christmas, but he decided he just wasn't ready yet. On Christmas Eve, our family had our day mapped out which included the candlelight service at our church. Of course, we didn't make it to the service we had intended on making it to...Marisa's car decided it had had enough and it just quit running, so we piled into our vehicle, made our way to the mall for Santa pictures, had some ice-cream, then made our way to the church. It was a very tiring day, ending with a lot of hungry children (adults too).
Christmas day was very different this year. We started the morning with Matt's arrival to Rick Husband Airport around 11:00am.
Marisa was so fun to watch as you could see her excitement at having her husband here. We spent the day preparing a nice dinner, making cookies and baking a cake. That evening, we celebrated Jesus birthday with the kiddos. Sadie read a story about the baby Jesus, we lit candles on the cake, and sang "Happy Birthday, Jesus". Before going to bed, each of the kids opened a gift of pajamas.
My dad arrived at the airport later that night. We weren't sure if he was going to make it, but with some rearranging of flights, he made it here at 10:20pm. Due to the Christmas day arrival of Matt and my dad, Santa made a stop at our home the next night. We had some very pleased children, as they all got what they had asked for! They must have been on the "nice" list again this year:)
Before opening the rest of the presents, the guys had to go and take care of Matt and Marisa's vehicle. When they all got back, we finished opening gifts.
Later that day, all of us (minus Rick and Trevon) took a trip out to Palo Duro Canyon.
It was especially fun watching Kiahna use her new camera to take many many pictures of the canyon. She got some great shots...especially for a four year old!
The next day, Matt and Marisa wanted to see Amarillo's hot spot...Cadillac Ranch! It was absolutely freezing out there, so we ran, took a couple pics and ran back to the vehicles.
We also decided to drive up to Groom, TX to see the big cross.
We always enjoy taking people up there to see this amazing site. Again it was cold, so we didn't spend a lot of time there. Instead, we headed back to Amarillo to have dinner at my mom's (and my grandpa and grandma's I might add) favorite spot...Furr's Buffet. It is a great buffet! The next morning (Sunday morning), we had to say good-bye to Matt, Marisa and the kids. It was sad to see them go and we all felt a void in our lives that day.
