A Trip to Amarillo

As people were going on vacations to Colorado or going on great camping trips over the 4th of July weekend, our family was taking a trip back to Amarillo. Rick had the 3rd off, so we decided that we should take the extended weekend to get some things taken care of at the house. We knew that there was a chance that our backyard might need to be mowed, but we did not realize what we were going to be up against. Did you know that in just a few short weeks, weeds that you didn't even know existed could be growing into trees? It took Rick 8 hours to get the lawn mowed...and no, we do not have a large yard! He had to take turns between using the weed eater and the lawn mower, as each one would die after being overworked.

While Rick was mowing, I was going through boxes in the garage and getting rid of things. If you could see our garage, you would see that that was quite a job in itself...especially when the kiddos want the things I'm giving away...as if they don't have enough as is. Also, when we showed up at the house, we were welcomed with problems from our air conditioner. I guess that when the house was being shown at some point or another, someone turned the ac on and it was continuously running. The unit was freezing up on the outside and inside. We tried to work on it, but it looks like we will have to continue dealing with it the next time we travel up there. Our trip wasn't all work though, there was some play. On July 4th we started out with a parade. We went to the parade in Canyon for the first time since we lived in Amarillo. I don't know why we hadn't gone before. It was a pretty good parade. Rick and I both found ourselves getting teary eyed seeing the enormous support for our armed forces and veterans. It was very patriotic. After the parade, we relaxed a little before going over to our good friend Becki's parents home for a bbq with her family. We had a good time. Kiahna had a great time playing with her friend Lexi. She really misses her. After spending time there, we visited with our friends Bob, Tracy, and Sam. Sam was a good friend of Trevon's from school. They seemed to enjoy spending some time together. We had hoped to go and see the firework show, but we were so exhausted from the previous day of work that we decided to go home. We had some sparklers that we let the kid use. They thought that was the greatest! All in all, it was a great trip. When we moved to Amarillo, it was a place we wanted to move away from quickly. Almost three years later it is home. So, leaving our house, in hopes that it will sell, it is a bittersweet feeling leaving some really great people and a house that is more than just a house...it is a place of memories and a feeling of home.
