A new school year

Before we moved, we knew that it might take some time to get our kids enrolled in school in California, but we didn't realize how long that would be. We certainly did not come prepared with what was required.

School had already been in session for a week prior to our arrival. The school that Trevon and Kiahna would go to, based on location, was not a school we wanted our kids going to. Therefore, the first morning that we had in CA, Rick and I filled out an interdistrict tranfer and started the process of trying to find a school for the kids.

We first went to the school in which my cousin is the Principal. She said that her kindergarten and second grade classrooms were full, but she had found out that another school had openings. We went over to that school to start the paperwork, but they sent us over to the district office to make sure that we would be ok'd to switch districts. Once that was approved, we went back to the house to fill out the lengthy paperwork. While filling out the paperwork, the school called and informed me that both Trevon and Kiahna would have to have a TB test before they could start school. Unfortunately, the medical clinic could not see the kids until Wednesday, so that meant that the kids could not have the test read until Friday.

Finally...Trevon and Kiahna were able to start school on Monday. They both seemed to really like their teachers and they enjoyed making some new friends. Kiahna is such a big girl...and brave! I can't believe that she is a kindergartener already. Trevon was a bit more shy, but he's done the starting a new school thing a couple of times now, so he did pretty well. He's the big (or little) second grader. Since school had already been in session for two weeks, Trevon came home with lots of homework. What a way to start out the school year!
